Voice Your Opposition to Cuts in Funding for International Education

The MLA hopes that you will join in the effort to oppose proposed cuts to two vital international education programs: Title VI and Fulbright-Hays. The Senate has proposed slashing $25 million (35%) from the programs, and the cut has already passed the Senate Appropriations Committee. Cutting these programs would hinder students’ pursuit of deep expertise in foreign languages and cultures, threaten our national educational and research capacity in two hundred less commonly taught languages, and compromise opportunities to strengthen the teaching of foreign languages and cultures at the K–12 level. Please let members of Congress know that training students and scholars in foreign language and international and area studies is a priority for their constituents by sending a message to your representatives.
