Winner of Digital Challenge Announced

The award will be presented at the 2013 MLA convention session “Answering the Challenge: The New Variorum Shakespeare in the Digital Age” (488) on 5 January. The runner-up was Doug Reside and Gregory Lord’s Comedy of Errors.

Survey of Faculty Members Who Teach Online

The Coalition on Contingent Academic Labor and the United Association for Labor Education request your help in gathering information on the wages and working conditions of faculty members who teach online. If you teach online, we encourage you to complete their survey and to share the link with others. Although no names will appear in the resulting report, those who wish to remain anonymous can type random letters in the name field. The name of your institution, however, is required. For more information, please contact Helena Worthen.

Suggesting Members for Committee Appointments

When the Executive Council meets in February 2013, it will make appointments to fifteen standing committees of the association. Through 4 February, these committees and the outgoing committee members will be listed on the committee suggestion page. To suggest yourself or another member of the association, respond to the three prompts on the suggestion page and then complete the short information form. Please note that suggestions for appointments are not carried forward from year to year; they are compiled anew for each appointment cycle.

October Job Information List PDFs

PDFs of the English and foreign language editions of the MLA Job Information List (JIL) are available online. The October lists contain live links provided by advertisers as well as links to apply for positions that are still accepting applications through Interfolio. All who apply for positions from the JIL will receive Interfolio Dossier accounts at no cost. With an account, job seekers can submit application letters and CVs electronically for free. More information about the dossier service is available in the JIL section of the MLA Web site.

Help Shape MLA Style

If you or your students use the MLA Handbook, you can help shape the future of MLA style by participating in a brief survey. The association would like to learn more about how teachers, students, and librarians use the print Handbook, the Handbook Web site, and other resources for MLA style. To contribute, please click on the appropriate link above and share these links with your colleagues and students.
