MLA Joins in Calling for Open Access to Federally Funded Educational Resources

The MLA has joined with more than ninety education, library, technology, public interest, and legal organizations in calling on the White House to enhance its U.S. Open Government National Action Plan by providing open access to federally funded educational materials. In an open letter to President Obama, the coalition asks that these Open Educational Resources (OER) be free to use, share, and improve: “At a time when educational opportunity, workforce development and access to knowledge are critical to America’s future, these valuable publicly-funded resources should be openly available to students, teachers, businesses, workers and the public to use in new and innovative ways.” Read the full letter online and show your support by tweeting using the hashtag #OERUSA.
